Where: Eakin Community Park at Tobin Road
When: 5:30 pm
Bird Species: white-breasted nuthatch, American robin times a billion, eastern bluebird, American goldfinch, yellow-rumped warbler, Carolina wren
Things I Thought About:
- Okay, well, here we are again at a park that until late this summer I had considered a bit of a bust for birds. This is turning out to be one of the most reliable places I go.
- The only problem, such as it is, is that these three trees are currently hosting both fall warblers and goldfinches, and now two Carolina wrens have flown in, in the light of a sinking golden sun, and they all are just blurs of small, quick, yellow birds. Distinguishing the goldfinch from the warblers is tougher than you might think.
- Wrens can get out of here, though, I feature you all the time.
- I am going to be cutting it ridiculously close on getting a bird newsletter out today. I hope when I download these photos it’s obvious who is who.
BOTD: yellow-rumped warbler.
I think you have learned enough about my local birds by now (and certainly if you've read for any length of time you've learned enough about me by now) to know that I spent most of the 20 minutes I had for birding todays swearing at all these small yellow birds. Hold STILL, dammit.
The light is starting to fail very early these days and I think we should all remain calm and in good spirits about it.
Getting this one in right under the wire! My 288th entry. Please clap.
