Bird of the Day: tufted titmouse. It has been a minute since I've seen one.

Where: the neighborhood

When: 9:40 am

Bird Species: house sparrow, house finch, northern cardinal, gray catbird, European starling, tufted titmouse, song sparrow, fish crow, American robin

Things I Thought About:

  • This is a remote work week for me, and it is so, so good. It isn’t sweltering yet. I'm not dripping sweat. I'm not tired and on edge and counting on the walk to chill me out. I just woke up thinking “it will be nice to go for a walk and not be rushed,” and do you know what? It is.
  • Finch in the finch tree, ten points.
Handsome and reliable. I have been enjoying these birds this summer.
  • So how are we all getting hantavirus these days; is it mosquitoes? I have bad news about my chubby little knees, then.
  • Tomorrow is July 1, new month, new me. I have big plans to completely change my life. Heads up, things are gonna get weird.
  • I mean, you probably won’t even notice, but I do plan to become an obsessive weirdo in small, invisible ways.
  • I’ve also been idly considering becoming an astrology nut! What is up, all my sad Geminis in Cancer season?!?
Finch breakfast date. I like these birds.
  • I should have turned off the alerts on my watch; I left my phone at home on purpose.
  • SCOTUS can choke on a scrotus.

BOTD: Tufted titmouse. I haven't seen one of these guys around here in a grip. It was treat to hear their loud buzzy little call and high two-note refrain. There were at least three of them, muscling in on the finch tree, which also had sparrows, a cardinal, and a squirrel present today.

This is a tough little bird. I'm glad I got some shots where you can see his tuft. Most of the time with these guys I'm shooting straight up at them.
