Bird of the Day: an American robin on a wire. My God, what a find.

Where: Ranger Road Park, and then the parking lot at pub quiz

When: 8:45 pm

Bird Species: heard but not seen: house sparrow, house finch, northern cardinal, Carolina wren, European starling. Seen: American robin.

Things I Thought About:

  • Today I typed and deleted a sentence in a work email that read, "As our very cool President says, thank you for your attention to this matter!" I kind of regret deleting it. They don't know me very well yet, and they may as well find out.
  • I woke up in my feelings today about our only president and the reflecting pool and how shitty and weird downtown DC is lately. I hate that guy, like, so, so much.
  • Today was a long and annoying day at work, full of people who just do not help each other. It's frustrating.
  • So I was late leaving the office and I stopped on the way to the bar to walk a little and try to chill. I heard five bird species, and do you know how many birds I actually laid eyes on? None. Zero birds allowed themselves to be watched by me at the park.
  • This is maybe unprecedented. Usually, I just can't get a photo, but this evening I simply could not see a single bird. It was almost eerie.
  • I just went on to pub quiz, where we came in second, thankyouverymuch, and I said to myself, "There will either be a bird in the parking lot when we leave, or I'll have to retrieve a photo from days past and write something a little thoughtful about it." We all see what happened here.

BOTD: An American robin, the only bird I saw today. He was making a big racket. Then he immediately showed me his butt. I'm trying not to take it personally.

Related: if you are interested in being a Guest Birder some time, hit me up at skwbotd@gmail.com! I'd love to have some decent entries banked for days like today, and for days when I'm just not up for it. Especially if you want to talk about a bird I don't get around here.
