Bird of the Day: house sparrow, a nice bird in good light.

Where: my parking lot

When: 6:55 am

Bird Species: house sparrow, American robin, song sparrow

Things I Thought About:

  • I had better take a photo right this minute. Today is our company Summer Outing, which is a party suite at Nationals Park for the day game. I have no idea if I'll have time to look for a bird later.
  • There is a type of man who is immensely, insultingly surprised and impressed when a woman knows literally anything about a sport, and I spotted the man in my office who will be that man on maybe my fourth day.
  • My own baseball team is a division rival to the Nats, but I think I can suck it up for an afternoon, provided there is food.
  • My knees feel awful from four hours in the swamp yesterday. And it's hot again.
  • A nice calm bird in a nice nearby tree is exactly what the doctor ordered.

BOTD: the house sparrow. This is a bird that today can best be described as "proximate." As it turns it, by the time I got home from the game I was kind of beat, and I still need to dig out my inbox from the PTO Monday and Tuesday. I was glad I had seen this fellow first thing; it really was good morning light.

I was right about the "Oh, you're a baseball fan?" man, who also acted amazed that I could get to the stadium by myself on the metro, even though it is a stop on the metro. I don't even think he's as old as I am. I didn't think they made them like that anymore.
