Bird of the Day: American robin, raising a ruckus

Where: a tree in the complex next to mine

When: 6:45 pm

Bird Species: house sparrow, house finch, mourning dove, American robin, gray catbird, northern mockingbird, in the same tree

Things I Thought About:

  • Horny thoughts, I will regret to have to report. The Season 4 trailer for Reacher dropped recently and since I watched I have been idly wondering what a body like that would feel like. I, for one, am willing to make the experiment.
  • Alan Ritchsson is very fun and funny, and in interviews he seems like a very decent sort, but the top line take away from him is that, respectfully, I'd like to climb him like a jungle gym and hang upside down.
  • I dated a fair number of very attractive, wildly charismatic actors when I was working as an actor, but stage actors, of the lean and intellectual type, with great noses and sinewy forearms. Always a Cassius, never a Mark Anthony
  • I have liked any number of men who are not especially large or tall, but I have never had the experience of feeling small next to someone, and I siiiiimply wonnnnnder if I would enjoy that, is all.
  • Well, that was a genuinely disgraceful mental diversion. I must improve my leisure time reading material, I think.
  • There are a lot of birds in that tree.
  • Sometimes you can think you see three or four house sparrows in a full green tree, and then when you get close enough to the tree to startle them, you discover there's a dozen or more. They can explode out of cover together like a cloud. It is very nice when that happens.
  • There are a lot of fucking birds still in this tree.

BOTD: American robin, but it could have been any of them. It was the action, not the species, that made the bird walk good today. I kept watching this one tree, and kept discovering yet another species nestled in there. There are summer berries on it, naturally.

One of the two robins was making their short, high-pitched alarm call the whole time, which is very amusing to me. He sounded so fractious, but the only alarm was that a bunch of little finches also wanted some berries.

I think I stopped for a full ten minutes to watch this one tree. It was time very well spent.
